Mother's Day Brunch is Back — and This Year's Menu Means It
There's a particular kind of morning that only comes around once a year. Not rushed, not ordinary. The kind where the table is set before anyone asks, the coffee is already poured, and the person sitting across from you is the reason you know how to do any of this at all.
That's what we're building on May 10.
Hunter & Co.'s Mother's Day Brunch returns with a prix-fixe menu designed around the idea that some meals deserve more thought than usual — and some people deserve more than a grocery-store bouquet and a reservation at the nearest brunch spot.
The first course sets the tone. Start with Citrus-Cured Arctic Char Crudo: blood orange, fennel pollen, pickled rhubarb, a drizzle of olive oil — bright and a little unexpected, the way a good morning should feel. Or go for the Duck Confit and Spring Vegetable Quiche, with wild leek custard and pâte brisée, which is exactly as serious as it sounds. If you'd rather ease in, the Whipped Ricotta and Apricot Toast on whole grain hearth sourdough with lavender honey and pistachio dukkah is the kind of thing you'll think about on the drive home.
Mains come with a side green salad and a choice that'll take some deliberating. The Braised Brisket Benny — corned beef, poached eggs, BBQ hollandaise on a toasted English muffin — is rich and earned. The Hunter Fried Chicken and Waffle gets a jalapeño cornbread waffle and maple butter, which is the Hunter way of saying we don't do things halfway. For something a little more unexpected, the Crab Maccheroni and Cheese with taleggio, fontina, and brown butter garlic crumb is the kind of dish that makes the table go quiet for a moment.
Then dessert. The Strawberry and Elderflower Pavlova with chantilly cream and St-Germain is built for a day like this. Light, floral, a little indulgent. The Dark Chocolate and Espresso Pot de Crème with toasted white chocolate milk crumb and chantilly cream is for everyone who needs something to anchor the sweetness.
Two courses at CA$40, three at CA$50. Two seatings: 10 AM to 12:30 PM and 1 to 3:30 PM. Seats are limited — they always go faster than expected.
